Who We Are
Mission: To enhance community well-being by engaging senior volunteers in meaningful service, fostering intergenerational connections, and addressing various community needs through dedicated volunteerism.
AmeriCorps Seniors at Senior Neighbors is a program in Kent County, Michigan, connecting individuals aged 55 and older with volunteer opportunities that leverage their experience and enthusiasm to support local schools and nonprofits.
What We Do
Services Provided:
- Foster Grandparents: Volunteers mentor and tutor children, assisting with literacy and math skills, and serving as positive adult role models. They commit to 20 hours per week in local schools or daycare classrooms. Eligible volunteers may receive modest stipends to help offset volunteering costs.
- RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program): Volunteers engage in various roles that align with their interests, supporting areas such as economic opportunity, healthy futures, and K-12 success. Opportunities are available across Kent County, with flexible schedules and remote service options.
- Senior Companions: Volunteers provide companionship and assistance to seniors, helping them maintain independence and quality of life. They serve in various capacities, including offering respite to family caregivers and assisting with daily activities.
